Fight Back with Joy Online Bible Study Week 2

fight back with joy week 2

Welcome back to the Womens Bible Cafe and Week Two of our online study, Fight Back with Joy by Margaret Feinberg.  Facing our fears, choosing joy and resting were our focus this week.

As I began this week's lesson, I time travelled to my childhood, remembering my fear of the dark and how vivid my imagination was about monsters hiding in my closet and under my bed. Fear, as we learned this week, is very personal to each and every one of us and can completely paralyze us.  Matthew 14:27, "Take courage, I am here!" (NLT) really resonated with me because I was reminded that God is always with me, no matter what I fear, what I am going thru, and when I give Him my worries, fear will not take center stage in my life, God will.

Did you see a few of your own items on the list of things we are afraid of? I know I sure did.  Going to the dentist was my biggest one this week. It brought all those horrible thoughts to the surface, long needles, drills, and pain.  But from the moment I scheduled the appointment to when I actually met the staff and the dentist, everything was explained to me and I began to understand what would be done to uncover the source of my pain and fix it.  Just like the fear that we run from or put on the back burner, once we uncover its source and face it, God can begin to show us the way to overcome it. We begin to realize, that although the situation is real, we can be freed from its hold on us.  And, the funny thing is, it often times wasn't as bad as it seemed.

What I loved about this week's lesson was the hope I received in knowing that no matter what fear I faced from day to day: financial pressure, health issues, addictions, depression, envy, the weapon to use remained the same: JOY. "…Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is my strength!" Nehemiah 8:10 (NIV) God's joy is my strength, God's joy is your strength, God's joy is our strength and we can use it to fight everything that tries to steal our joy. Joy refocuses our sights onto God and places Him back where He desires to be in our lives, FIRST. Our outlook on every situation changes when we face our fears, and allow God's joy to reign in our lives.

I know, I know, every day is not a joyful one.  We often become weary and tired due to worry and stress.  But remember what we learned last week, several verses that show us God's love for us and each day we are identifying and celebrating the joys that God sends our way.  These things will help us refocus when life gets tough.  And this week we learned the equation no rest = no joy!  (page 63)

I encourage you to face your fears, choose joy as your weapon of choice and take rest in God every day!

Question 1: When you find yourself in a difficult situation, is your natural response fight, flight, or freeze? Explain why. (When you answer the question, put Q1 before your comment so we know you’re answering question one)

Question 2: What does it mean for you to fight back with joy in the midst of a current circumstance you are facing? (page 54) (When you answer the question, put Q2 before your comment so we know you’re answering question two)

Question 3: How does loss of sleep or rest affect your attitude and response to situations, family, and work? (When you answer the question, put Q3 before your comment so we know you’re answering question three.)

Question 5: JOY CHECK: On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is "depleted" and 10 is "overflowing", where is your joy meter currently reading? NOTE: record this answer we will revisit this question during the study.  Look back on your answer for Introduction week, has your joy improved? (When you answer the question, put Q5 before your comment so we know you're answering question five)

Ephesians: Free from Bondage God’s Way | Week 2

Week 2 Blog post photo

Welcome back to our online Inductive Bible Study on the book of Ephesians, “Free from Bondage God’s Way” by Kay Arthur.   We just completed Week Two, “Secure and Seated with Jesus!"  Wow! What an amazing week of study it has been again! When you take the time to diligently study God's Word, you will discover marvelous truths in a fresh new light, no matter how many times you may have read the chapter.  It's like panning for gold.  You sift, and sift, and sift until you discover priceless nuggets of truth you may have missed previously.  And we don't want to miss a thing!

Our major focus of study this week was on our relationship with the Holy Spirit and what it means in the life of the believer.

"In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise." Ephesians 1:13

Not only do we have the Holy Spirit to guide and direct us in our daily lives, we have been sealed with the Holy Spirit.  It's a done deal! Once sealed, always sealed!  And with a seal comes power.  It's a sign of authenticity.  Kings long ago wore signet rings with the insignia of an official engraved into the head of the ring.  They would dip the ring in hot wax, and the image of that ring validated an official document, such as a proclamation which became law.  We even have seals today to validate important documents….a notary seal, a gold seal from the secretary of state, and I even recall my father saying to me in my younger days, "you have my seal of approval."

When we are sealed with the Holy Spirit, we are secure, and we belong to God.  He has given us His down payment, which is a guarantee that the full price will be paid when we stand before Him blameless in our redeemed spiritual bodies.

So how do we become sealed with the Holy Spirit? The moment we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, His Holy Spirit takes up residency within us, and then God seals us for all eternity.  We have eternal security and protection and nothing can cause the Lord to forsake us, because His Spirit has sealed us in Him forever.  This is a guarantee that will never expire.  Therefore, what should our response be to God?

  • Believe Him
  • Have faith in Him
  • Trust Him
  • Praise Him

As we prepare to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, think about what He did for you on the cross.  Then praise Him for sending His Holy Spirit to you and securely sealing you for all eternity.

Kay Arthur writes in the Thought for the Week…

"When you come to know the Lord Jesus Christ, you move into another realm spiritually.  You become a member of His body, and you are permanently seated with the Lord Jesus Christ in the heavenly places."

BIBLE STUDY TIP:  Prepare your heart. Talk to God about things you may need to confess, and enter your study time peacefully and without anything that may block you from receiving revelation during your study time.

ASSIGNMENT FOR THE WEEK:

  • Join a small group and fellowship with your fellow Bible students. http://www.facebook.com/groups/WBCInductiveStudies/
  • Complete your study of Week Three, “Grace that Covers and Provides."
  • Pray before you begin your study.  Ask your resident Teacher, the Holy Spirit, to open your heart to wisdom and understanding to learn His truths.
  • Do an online word study on “Sealed” (Ephesians 1:13) at www.blueletterbible.org. Instructions for doing a word study are located in “Files” in the Inductive Studies chat room.
  • Store in your heart Ephesians 1:18-19 (Week Two, Day Seven).

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR THIS WEEK (answer in small groups or post a comment here)

  1. Describe the difference between your life in Christ and before Christ.
  2. What does it mean to be sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise? (Ephesians 1:13)
  3. How can we be sure we are sealed with the Holy Spirit?
  4. What does it mean to be holy and blameless before Him? (Ephesians 1:4) In light of this, how are we to live?
  5. What does the Spirit of God have to do with your redemption? (Ephesians 1:7,14)
  6. What is the most significant thing you learned in your study this week? How will you apply this to your life?

Blessings,

Sheree Poole

Computer simulation discloses new effect of cavitation

Posted: 26 Mar 2016 07:57 AM PDT

Researchers have discovered a so far unknown formation mechanism of cavitation bubbles by means of a model calculation. In a new article, they describe how oil-repellent and oil-attracting surfaces influence a passing oil flow. Depending on the viscosity of the oil, a steam bubble forms in the transition area. However, it may also have a positive effect, as it may keep components at a certain distance and, thus, prevent damage.
