साखरेवर नियंत्रण?

कोणत्याही शाळेच्या सभोवती नजर फिरवली तर गुबगुबीत गालांची मुलं हमखास तुमच्या नजरेस पडतात. काही दशकांपूर्वी परिस्थिती अशी नव्हती. बालकांच्या वजनासंबंधीच्या समस्यांना अनेक घटक जबाबदार आहेत. त्यात साखर सेवन वरच्या क्रमांकावर आहे. केवळ प्रौढ म्हणून आपण आपल्या साखर सेवनाच्या प्रमाणावर लक्ष ठेवणं पुरेसं नाही तर अनेकदा विविध जटिल समस्या आपल्यामुळे मुलांमध्ये निर्माण होत असतात. हे नेमकं घडतं कसं, त्याकडे एक दृष्टिक्षेप टाकू या!

आपण पालक म्हणून, प्रामुख्याने महिलावर्ग आपल्या मुलांना गरजेपेक्षा जास्त भरवतात. लठ्ठ मूल सशक्त असतं, असा गोड गरसमज आपल्या समाजात रूढ आहे. बालकाची अंगकाठी सडपातळ असेल तर असं मूल अशक्त मानलं जातं. ब-याचदा अशा मुलांना कुपोषितही ठरवलं जातं. उलट गलेलठ्ठ मूल म्हणजे खात्या-पित्या घरातील लेकरू अशी भाबडी समजूत लोकांच्या मनात घर करून असते. वजन ही समस्या ठरू शकते याबाबत मुलं अनभिज्ञ असतात. त्यामुळे ती निश्चिंत असतात. जे पदार्थ तोंडाला पाणी आणतात, ते खाण्याकडे या मुलांचा कल असतो. साखरेचा मुद्दा येतो तेव्हाही अतिसेवन करू नये याकडे मुलांचे दुर्लक्ष होणे स्वाभाविकच असते. मात्र ही सवय बालकांच्या वाढीत अतिशय संवेदनशील ठरते. त्यामुळे कमी वयातच आजारांना आमंत्रण मिळतं.

ओबेसिटी या जर्नलमध्ये अलीकडे प्रसिद्ध झालेल्या एका अभ्यासात म्हटले आहे की, साखरेमुळे वजन वाढते म्हणून ती वाईट आहे असं नाही. तर तिच्या अतिरिक्त सेवनामुळे तुमच्यात चयापचयसंबंधी अनेक मोठे बदल घडू शकतात. संशोधकांचा अभ्यास सांगतो की, वय वर्ष ९ ते १८ वयोगटातील ४३ लठ्ठ मुलांवर साखर-मर्यादा पडताळून पाहिली. त्यात किमान एका मुलाला चयापचय समस्या म्हणजे उच्च रक्तदाब किंवा रक्तातल्या चरबीचे मोठे प्रमाण असल्याचे लक्षात आले. तसेच यकृतावर चरबी साठल्याच्या खुणा दिसल्या. सुमारे नऊ दिवस या मुलांनी साखर-मर्यादा असलेला आहार घेतला, मात्र आहारातील उष्मांक स्थिर ठेवण्यात आला. त्यांना साखरेच्या बदल्यात पिष्टमय पदार्थ (स्टार्च) आणि कबरेदके देण्यात आली. नऊ दिवसांनंतर बालकांचा सरासरी रक्तदाब /फ5ेऌॅ ने कमी झाला.

यकृतावर साठलेली चरबी ३३ पॉइंटनी कमी झाली, त्यांचे एलडीएल (वाईट) कोलेस्ट्रॉल दहा पॉइंटनी घसरले. इन्सुलिन एक तृतीयांशने मंदावले. रिकाम्या पोटी शर्करा प्रमाण (फािस्टग ग्लुकोज) आणि यकृताचे कार्य सुधारले. 'कॅलरी (उष्मांक) म्हणजे कॅलरी नाही'. या कॅलरी शरीरात त्या जिथे जातात तिथूनच येतात, असा निष्कर्ष संशोधकांनी काढला.

या निरीक्षणाला आधार देणारा लेख 'अमेरिकन जर्नल ऑफ क्लिनिकल न्युट्रिशन'मध्ये प्रकाशित झाला. त्यात असं म्हटलं आहे की, ज्या आहारात साखर अधिक प्रमाणात असते, त्याचे विपरीत परिणाम दिसतात. इतर कबरेदकांमुळे टाईप २ प्रकारचा मधुमेह निर्माण होऊ शकतो. तुम्ही अगोदरच मधुमेहग्रस्त असाल तर मग तो मधुमेह टाईप १, टाईप २ किंवा जेस्टेशनल असू दे, तुमच्या आहारातील अतिरिक्त साखर तुमच्या शरीरातील साखरेचे प्रमाण आरोग्यदायी ठेवण्यास मदत करते.

साखरेतील उष्मांक वाईट असतात. त्यामागचं कारण म्हणजे हे उष्मांक वजन आणि कमरेचा घेर वाढवतात. त्यामुळे एचडीएलची पातळी कमी होते. एलडीएल वाढतं. रक्तातील शर्करा वाढतो. चयापचय क्रिया आणि उच्च रक्तदाब वाढतो. त्यामुळे हृदयरोगासंबंधीचे आजार बळावतात. एवढेच नव्हे तर साखरेचे जास्त प्रमाण तुमच्या यकृताला हानी पोहोचवते.

याशिवाय प्रत्येक वेळी जेवणानंतर साखर खाण्याची तुम्हाला सवय असेल तर तुमच्या शरीराची प्रतिकारशक्ती दिवसातून निम्म्याच प्रमाणात काम करेल. 'यूएसए टुडे'च्या मासलेवाईक अभ्यासात असं नमूद करण्यात आलं आहे की, साखरेचे अतिसेवन म्हणजे तुमच्या प्रतिकारशक्तीशी केलेली गंभीर तडजोड. अशी प्रतिकारशक्ती जी तुम्हाला विषाणू, जीवाणू आणि परजीवींशी लढण्याची ताकद देते.

आरोग्यदायी पर्याय काटेकोरपणे अंगीकारणे ही काळाची गरज आहे. तुम्ही साखरेला पूर्णपणे निषिद्ध करू शकत नसाल, तर सेवनाच्या मर्यादा निश्चित करा. विज्ञान फार पुढे गेलं आहे, यासाठी खरंच त्याचे आभार मानले पाहिजेत. आपल्या मदतीसाठी कृत्रिम स्वीटनर्स आहेत. सध्या बाजारात अनेक ब्रॅन्डसची विस्तृत श्रेणी उपलब्ध आहे. ज्यामुळे तुमच्या शरीरात शून्य उष्मांक जातात आणि वजनावर नियंत्रण राहतं. केवळ मधुमेहींना साखरेपासून चार हात लांब राहावे लागते अशातला भाग नाही. अशा पर्यायांचा नियमित वापर तोंडाच्या उत्तम आरोग्यासाठीही सुचवला जातो. कारण साखर नाही, म्हणजे दात सडत नाहीत, तुमची चवही कायम राहते. त्यामुळे शेवटी सगळ्याच परिस्थितीचा फायदा तुम्हाला होतो.

त्या व्यतिरिक्त तुम्ही तुमची साखरयुक्त पेयं, बिस्किटं आणि केक, आरोग्यदायी नाश्ता पर्याय म्हणून खाऊ-पिऊ शकता. उदाहरणार्थ, कायम नसर्गिकरित्या गोड फळे म्हणजे खजूर, केळी, द्राक्षं आणि लिची किंवा बोरं हातात ठेवा. त्यामुळे तुमची साखरेची गरज नसíगकरितीने पूर्ण तर होईलच. शिवाय, समृद्ध तंतुमय घटक, जीवनसत्त्वे आणि खनिजेदेखील मिळतील.

साधारणपणे दोन-तीन तासांच्या अंतराने नियमित काहीतरी खात राहावे. त्यामुळे गोड खाण्याची इच्छा मर्यादित राहील. शक्यतो प्रक्रिया केलेले अन्नपदार्थ टाळावेत. त्यापेक्षा नसíगक घटकांचे सेवन करावे. आरोग्यदायी प्रथिने असलेल्या घटकांचे सेवन करावे. उदाहरणार्थ, ओमेगा-३, संपृक्त किंवा काही प्रमाणात-संपृक्त असलेल्या प्रथिनांचे सेवन उत्तम आहे. तुमच्या आहारात आंबवलेले पदार्थ म्हणजे दही, इडली आणि ढोकळ्याचा समावेश करा. या अन्नपदार्थात असलेले चांगले जीवाणू (गुड बक्टेरिया) अन्न पचनाला मदत करेल आणि शरीरातून विषारी घटकांचा निचरा होईल. ज्यामुळे तुमच्या यकृतावर येणारा ताण कमी होईल.

चक्रासन

या आसनात शरीराचा आकार अर्धवर्तुळाशी मिळताजुळता किंवा अर्धवर्तुळासारखा दिसतो. म्हणूनच या आसनाला चक्रासन असंही म्हणतात.

योगा मॅटवर पाठीवर सरळ आणि ताठ झोपावं. पूर्ण शरीराला प्रथम सैल सोडावं. आता दोन्ही पाय दुमडून घ्यावेत. पायाची टाच मांडीजवळ आणण्याचा प्रयत्न करावा. दोन्ही हात कानाजवळ ठेवावेत म्हणजेच हातांची बोटंही आपल्या बाजूला असावीत. (चित्रात दाखवल्याप्रमाणे) आता हळुवारपणे कंबरेला वरती उचलावं. त्यानंतर डोकं वर उचलावं. शरीराचा पूर्ण भार हा दोन्ही हात आणि दोन्ही पायांवर असावा.

चित्रात दाखवल्याप्रमाणे आसन करावे. काही सेकंद चक्रासन या आसनात थांबावं. या आसनात जेवढं शरीर वरती उचलता येईल तेवढे उचलण्याचा प्रयत्न करावा. सुरुवातीला जेवढं थांबता येईल तेवढाच वेळ थांबावं. आसन सोडताना प्रथम मान, डोकं यांना अलगद खाली आणावं. त्याचबरोबर कमरेचा भाग हळुवारपणे खाली आणावा. आता थोडा वेळ विश्रांती करावी.

श्वास

»  सुरुवातीला श्वास घ्यावा.

»  शरीराला वरती नेताना श्वास थांबवावा किंवा नियमित श्वासोच्छ्वास करावा.

»  शरीराचा वरील भाग खाली आणताना श्वास सोडावा.

वेळ

» सुरुवातीला जेवढा वेळ तुम्ही आसनात बसू शकाल तितका वेळ बसावं.

» हे आसन किमान दोन ते तीन वेळा करावं.

आसन करताना घ्यावयाची काळजी

चक्रासन या आसनाची सुरुवात करताना प्रथम पूर्ण शरीराला रिलॅक्स करावं. या आसनात आपण पायाच्या टाचा नितंबाला लावतो आणि शरीराचा वरील भाग वरती उचलतो. पण तुम्हाला पायांच्या टाचा नितंबाला लावून शरीर वरती उचलता येत नसेल तर थोडंसं अंतर ठेवून शरीराला वरती आणावं. शरीराला जेवढं वर उचलता येईल तेवढं उचलावं. काही सेकंद थांबावं. हे आसन सोडताना प्रथम मानेला खाली आणावं. मग कमरेला खाली आणावं. थोडा वेळ विश्रांती घेऊन मग पुन्हा करावं.

विशेष नोंद

ज्या व्यक्तीचे मनगट, हात, पाठ कमकुवत असेल किंवा दुखत असेल त्यांनी चक्रासन या आसनाची प्रॅक्टिस करू नये. तसंच गरोदर असल्यास थकवा वाटत असल्यास हे आसन करू नये. तसंच हे आसन योगाशिक्षकाच्या मार्गदर्शनाखाली करावे.

»  चक्रासनामुळे पोट कमी होण्यास मदत होते.

»  या आसनाने पाठीच्या कण्याला चांगला ताण मिळतो. त्यामुळे तो लवचिक बनतो.

»  ज्या व्यक्तींना मधुमेह आहे अशा व्यक्तींनी हे आसन करावे.

विशेष सूचना : हे आसन करताना योगा मॅटवरच करावे. कारण ब्लँकेटवर केल्यास हात सरकण्याची भीती असते.

»  डाळीचं सूप तयार करून प्यायल्याने आतडय़ांशी संबंधित विकार होत नाहीत.

»  मसूर जाळून त्याचं चूर्ण करून दुधात घालून सकाळ-संध्याकाळ जखमेवर लावल्याने जखम लवकर भरण्यास मदत होते.

»  मसूर डाळीचा आहारात समावेश केल्याने रक्तवृद्धी होण्यास मदत होते. कमी रक्त असलेल्यांनी मसूरचा आहारात नियमित समावेश करावा.

»  पचनक्रिया सुधारून पोटाशी संबंधित विविध विकार दूर होण्यास मदत होते.
