Job purpose:

Purpose of the Research

The purpose of the research is two-fold, comprising desk research and field-based study. It will assess existing and convergent research findings and recommendations and identify possible gaps in current EU policy and programming; and will examine current practices in a number of countries/contexts and how they are perceived by youth. Together these components should contribute to a constructive debate with the European Union and member states in Europe and indeed in those in countries in which we work about what needs to change and how such change could be supported and sustained.

Main duties & responsibilities:

Deliverables:

The research will comprise two consecutive components:

1) Desk study to compile key conclusions and recommendations from existing research and to

assess whether these are reflected within EU policies and programmes:

2) Field-based study in rural areas of a number of countries including Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda,

Tanzania and/or Malawi (depending in part on researcher's contacts)

Budget:

The maximum budget available is EUR60,000 inclusive of VAT

Person specification (essential):

Requirements

Researcher/s should have experience in the following areas:
Field work with rural communities
Use of social anthropology research tools
Quantitative and qualitative data analysis
Working with farmers' organisations
Working with vocational training approaches and concepts
Nexus between agriculture and climate change in programming and policy spheres

The Technical Proposal should contain:
(i) names & CVs of researchers who would conduct the research
(ii) evidence of previous research
(iii) bibliography
(iv) proposed research methodology
(v) proposed work-plan and timeframe
(vi) relationships with prospective stakeholders in the study
(vii) national or regional bodies the researcher may propose to partner with

The Financial proposal should contain:
(i) a proposed budget and timeframe for each part of the study
